Reducing Carbon Emissions

At Change Nutrition we believe in caring for the planet and reducing carbon impact wherever possible. As a small company our emissions are already quite low but we believe that everyone can and should continue to reduce their environmental impact . We are proud to have signed up to the 10:10 campaign and support Brighton and Hove 10:10

Brighton and Hove 10:10

It’s easy to feel powerless in the face of a huge problem like climate change, but by combining our individual efforts under one banner, 10:10 enables all of us to make a meaningful difference. It’s the perfect opportunity to find out what’s possible when we work together.Whether you want to help tackle climate change or just get your bills down to size, we all know that cutting our carbon footprint makes sense. Change Nutrition have joined thousands of people and organisations across the country in adopting a simple goal: cutting our carbon by 10% in 2010.

Cutting carbon by 10% in one year is a bold target but for most of us an achievable one, and is in line with what scientists say we need to do right now. By signing up to 10:10 we’re not just promising to reduce our own emissions – we’re becoming part of a national drive to hit this ambitious goal in every sector of society.

The success of 10:10 depends on getting everyone involved in making it happen -  the 10:10 website has all the information and tools you need to spread the word so if you want to know more and join us in the campaign please sign up.

Change Nutrition joined 10:10 in May 2010. Steps taken to reduce our carbon emissions are logged below :

May 2010

  • Signed up to the campaign
  • Joined the Brighton and Hove 10:10 Linked In Group and asked for tips on local suppliers of recycled stationery
  • Made a commitment to build in 'walk to work' time on clinic days, store heavier equipment at the clinic & therefore reduce car usage  to a maximum of 1 clinic trip per month (currently 4-5 trips by car)

June 2010

  • Progress in reducing car usage. I used the car to go to clinic only once this month -on target . Additional benefits are that I get an additional walk in the sun (good weather helps!) and some 'separation time' between work and home.
  • I now have a source for green stationery locally in Brighton. George Rose Office Products is a local Brighton firm and have a great 'refine your search for green products' function on the home page. I'll definitely be placing an order. I've decided to make a large order all at once for paper and other stationery to reduce the amount of 'delivery miles' on products I know I need and will use.

July 2010

  • Again, car use was kept down to 1 round trip this month. The habit of walking to the clinic is starting to form and I am less conscious of the 'effort'
  • First  order of stationery from local firm, George Rose, in Brighton (see above). I've gone for both ordinary and high quality completely recycled paper. I've also chosen all of my envelopes, suspension files and document wallets from the 'green' range.  By buying in bulk I aim to reduce 'delivery miles' from my usual habit of making frequent small orders of stationery
  • Next month I aim to examine some of the environmental policies of the product and supplement companies I use as an integral part of producing a 'preferred provider list' for Change Nutrition when sourcing supplements for clients.
