Why Lab Tests?
In many cases functional or biochemical tests may be recommended as part of the Nutritional Therapy Programme. Test results can help formulate highly targeted programmes which can lead to swifter results for the individual and help form an evidence base on improved health outcomes. Tests are optional and are discussed as part of the assessment process. Tests can :
- help confirm which important system imbalances (such as hormonal, digestive or immune imbalances) are the key contributors to health symptoms
- rule out other imbalances saving time and money in the longer term
- identify specific needs for particular vitamins , minerals or other nutrients which can then be addressed in the nutritional programme
- be repeated at a later stage to monitor your progress
- confirm that those ‘nagging symptoms’ really do have a biochemical or metabolic basis – especially helpful where people may have felt ‘disbelieved’ for many months or even years in some cases
- help identify where preventative action is needed to prevent disease . For example, measuring important cardiovascular markers where there is a family history of heart disease or diabetes
- reveal areas which are in need of support but were not previously considered a concern (asymptomatic) - offering opportunities for preventative nutrition prior to any obvious symptoms arising.
If your practitioner considers that tests may be appropriate for you , they will be discussed at your appointment. Tests can be:
