Find a Recipe
Eating healthily is so much easier if you get into the habit of trying new things, cooking from scratch, eating seasonally and finding inventive ways of cooking with ingredients that might be unfamiliar (or even a bit scary!). As well as being inspired by my recipe book addiction, I find the internet a fantastic source for inspiration. Just find a recipe you like the look of then, if it's low in protein or meagre on the vegetables, just adjust it - add in more greens, fruit, a tin of pureed beans, a handful of lovely herbs - sometimes these adjustments work, sometimes they fail - but at least you can have fun trying!
Here are some of my favourite websites. All of the sites below enable you to just put in the ingredient name and you are then provided with a list of recipes to choose from. I will be adding to these over time so keep checking back for more ideas:
This veggie box scheme supplier has great recipe ideas including short films and if you are off to Devon for the summer holidays try their restaurant which has Jane Baxter (previously of the River Cafe) as head chef
Another box supplier with a great website.. At the time of writing, this site featured budget organic meal for packed lunches, entertaining on a budget and Sunday lunch for less than £4.99 per head.
This site even has it’s own subsection for seasonal food with lots of recipes and tried and tested reviews by ‘real people’. These reviews at the bottom of each recipe are worth a read as often people have amended the recipe slightly to make it healthier, tastier or cheaper!
This site enables you to add more than one ingredient so if you happen to have salmon, spinach and tomatoes in your fridge, add all three words for tailored recipes. They also have a ‘healthier option’ tick box to click before running your search.
