Nutritional Therapy : A Step-by-Step Guide

Each programme is tailored to you as an individual . All appointments last approximately 1 hour. A typical programme looks like this:

Step 1 : Before your First Appointment

Book your free half hour face-to-face or telephone consultation

This is a chance to hear more about the Change Nutrition Approach, check whether Nutritional Therapy is suitable for you, ask questions and ‘preview’ your Nutritional Therapist without any obligation to book an appointment.

Book an initial appointment

Complete and return the Health Questionnaire  at least 5 working days before the initial appointment with cheque payment for the first appointment.

Step 2: Nutrition Assessment Appointment 1 & Practitioner Analysis

The first appointment focuses on your goals and health history. At the end of this appointment we will have had opportunity to discuss all of the issues over your lifetime which you feel may be relevant to your current health. We will talk through your medical history, questionnaire and other relevant information in order to inform the functional assessment. You may be asked to attend your GP surgery as part of initial assessment. In all cases a letter will be sent to your GP advising them of your request for Nutritional Assessment and recommendations.

Following your appointment, I will complete detailed analysis of your personal health history, symptoms, dietary intake, medication history and other information in order to assess the priorities for the nutritional programme and recommend any further investigations or referrals. The fee for this and ongoing work between appointments is included in the consultation cost.

Step 3: Nutrition Assessment Appointment 2

The second appointment takes place 1-2 weeks after the Initial Assessment.  I will spend time with you discussing my findings and recommendations for any lab or other tests.

Together we will then devise your first food and nutrient plans which will be tailored to meet the needs identified in the assessment so far. We will take into account your food likes and dislikes, obstacles and tips to support you in taking forward these initial recommendations. Nutritional supplement support may be recommended and advice given on helpful lifestyle, stress management or exercise strategies. You will also be asked to complete a short questionnaire in order to measure your progress as you go through the programme.

Step 4: Review Appointment

The 3rd appointment takes place 6-12 weeks after the 2nd appointment . If you have had laboratory or other tests, I will talk through the results of these at the appointment and you will take away a copy of the results.  The programme will be refined in light of any results, how you have taken forward the programme so far and any changes in health symptoms since the last appointment. At this stage we will agree a comprehensive nutritional programme. You will leave with a clear understanding of how you can use nutrition to support your health, detailed Food Plans, any supplement recommendations and other relevant information. At this stage you will be ready to take forward the programme independently for a 3 month period.

Step 5: Review Appointment

The 4th appointment takes place around 6 months after Appointment 3. We focus on a detailed review of your progress considering improvements to your health, any other changes, how you have implemented the food plans and supplement programmes.  You may wish to repeat selected lab tests at this stage to really see progress. For many people a maintenance programme is all that is needed at this stage .For others with more complex conditions or who prefer ongoing support , continued reviews can be arranged.

In-between visit Support

You may find you have queries or require some advice between appointments as you begin to take forward your nutritional programme. In order to ensure you get the best from your programme we offer up to 15 minutes of email or telephone advice in between appointments as part of your consultation costs. If more support is required an additional appointment can be made.

Face to face appointments last for around 1 hour and are held in the Change Nutrition Clinic Rooms. If you have severe fatigue or other needs which mean a 1 hour clinic based appointment is not suitable please contact us to discuss a personally tailored appointment programme.

Home visits are available in Brighton, Hove and across Sussex.

Please note 24 hours notice of cancellation is required for any appointment in order to receive full refund of your appointment fee.
